Day 76 to 78: End of the Shenandoahs & Vortexing

✨️Last days in the Shenandoahs, Front Royal, Vortexed, Trail Magic✨️, one of the first really hot days, bratwurst on the fire 🔥

Day 76: Byrds Nest 3 to Gravel Springs Hut

Mile Marker: 958.9 Miles today: 17.5

Got a late start today. We left camp around 8:45AM. Around 10 AM, we found some beers that we’re left in a ditch by the road by a friend. We took one each. I can say it’s the first time I find some beer like that 😃 A little late, we passed through a burnt forest. Saw a deer. It’s always nice to see them even if I already saw plenty on trail. In the afternoon we caught up to some friends.

These views: and people ask why we do what we do 🙂

Day 77: Gravel Springs Hut to US522 (Front Royal)

Mile Marker: 972.3 Miles today: 13.4

We we’re on trail by 6:40AM. This was the last day in the Shenandoahs. It was such a great part of trail & so much fun. Just before arriving at the trailhead near FrontRoyal, trail magic !!! A cooler was on the ground by the trail & had some homemade sweet tea 🤩 it was soo good!

At the trailhead, we got a drive to town by a the family of a fellow hiker. Got dropped off at the hotel. We did our resupply & ate at Mickey D’s. Joined some other hikers in town at On cue Sport Bar & did the laundry while hanging out in the afternoon: played pool, darts, a bingo music….vortex big time in Front Royal, but so very nice to just hang out & an amzaing finish to the Shenandoahs.

The time spent in Shenandoahs, is definitely one of the highlights of trail. Not just the views, but the crew of people I hiked around !!!

All amazing people

Day 78: US522 (Front Royal) to Whiskey Hollow Shelter

Mile Marker: 987.5 Miles today: 15.2

We we’re back on trail around 11AM that morning. Before hitting trail, we needed to stop at the local outfitter where I got some new sunglasses. Barely as we existed the outfitter, we got offered a ride. They gladdly took us to the post-office and waited for us to drop us off at the trailhead after. So nice of them & very much appreciated.

Once back at the trail head, fields was waiting me to wander across them. We stopped for a lunch at the Manassas Gap Shelter….I also saw some beers in the spring. Did not know who left it behind, so I left them there. We got at the shelter for the night around 6:30PM. Collected some wood & Snapper started a fire to cook the bratwursts…it was a good meal. I remember it rained that night! hard.
