Day 48: Thomas Knob Shelter to Dickey Gap Trail (Hurricane Creek Campground)

Mile marker: 518.4 Miles today: 19.2

The Grayson Highlands/ 500 miles

This morning I slowly woke up in the full shelter. It was still foggy & misty.

Before heading on trail, Half Pint who I met the day before took my photograph, on film that you must develop 📷. I can’t wait to see it! She also did an interview.

The question she asked touched me. I answered them thruthfully, even the ones that touched my soul since they have been questions I have been asking myself and/or even struggling to make peace with.

After the wonderful time with Half Pint, I wished her a good day, and headed on trail.

Today, I am doing the Grayson Highlands! That means poneys!!!

I saw some cows & poneys. The poneys are so cute 😍

I even saw one running down the trail towards me. Magical!

Today is also the day I passed the 500 mile marker! Amazing.

Also, I went through the “fat man squeeze”. It was fun.

As I made my way on the last part on the park, my glasses broke. They broke just where they sit on my nose… Guess it’s time to wear my contact lenses 🤷‍♀️

I also lost my “sit pad” that day 😅.

I decided to sleep at a campground 0.4 miles off trail that night. I meet Tony who is the care taker of the campground. I learned that he does this as a volounteer.

We sat around the fire he made & talked about life.

How nice it is the be able talk about so many things with complete stangers. The trail is something.
