Day 23: 18.4 miles – Tri-corner Knob Shelter to Green Corner Road (Standing Bear)

Mile marker: 242 Miles today: 18.4

Finishing the smookies !!!

No change from yesterday, the day started with rain 🌧😅

It was really hard to put back on wet & cold clothes on a chilly morning.

But hey, no choice really. Got to “embrace the suck ” or as I was told by my brother “Embrace the suffering. The only way out is through”.

Luckily, it cleared out relativly quick. The sun came out.

On my way down (downhill) out of the smookies, I saw Andy. I trail runner I saw on my day going in the smookies. He regonized me. He said it was ” all downhill from now”.

Then, the next thing I knew, I just finished going accross the Great Smooky Mountains! Wow!!! Incredible🤗

Just after the smookies, you had the most incredible cascades.

A few miles before reaching the hostel for the night, Standing Bear, trail magic!!!

Once at the hostel, the usual chores when you get in town started. But this time, cleaning the clothes was a little diffirent. It was done by hand! Last time I saw & used a wash board was in Mali.

I enjoyed the evening.

It was also nice to share a cabin with Michey who I crossed the night before at the shelter. I saw her for the first time with Puff at Above the Clouds Hostel if I recall correctly.

I also picked up my first resupply box.
