Day 85 to 86: Made it to the Mason-Dixon Line

✨️ Extra mile back to Gathland State Park, trail magic, pizza & tummy ache

Day 85: Small easy day with tons of food

Mile Marker: 1049.5 Miles today: 12.5

An other nice & easy morning.

Let’s just say, it was not in the plan initialy to have a late start, but the person I was hiking around forgot their wallet in Harpers Ferry the day before…luckily it got found & someone drove to Gathland State Park to bring it back… (yes, that meant walking back to the park. Good thing it was just 0.8 mile back & forth)

Once that was done, the day of walking started around 11:13 AM.

Stop of the day: Dahlgren Backpack Campground with some trail magic✨️ Honey Buns ✨️ so so good ! Stayed a while at the campground just hanging around & waiting for someone. While waiting, a Domino pizza was ordered to share ! The person never made it that day, so a whole lot of pizza went in my stomach. Was it a good idea ?

A short 1.9 miles later, at the Washinton Monumnet State Park, my stomach was not happy ! I unbuckled my backpack for a while. I still made the very small 0,1 miles off trail to see the Washington Monument.

Then, I was happy to make it to the shelter for the night at Pine Knob Shelter. Pitched the tent, then went to sleep…I also ate some more ! Guess hiker hunger is thing.

Day 86: The Mason-Dixon Line – Crossing into Pennsylvania

Mile Marker: 1068.1 Miles today: 18.6

This morning, I was on trail by 9:30 AM !

Got a very nice look out starting the day at Annapolis Rock. So very beautiful & soak up the moment for a while simply sitting on the rocks for a few minutes.

Then hiked about 16 miles to the Pen Mar County Park. Somewhere between the view point & the park, I went off trail … when I realized it, I backtracked back to the AT.

Once at the park, I took the time to make dinner at one of the picnic tables before heading towards camp for the night. But before, most importantly, the Maxon-Dixon Line a short 0.3 miles ahead ✨️

WOW, what a feeling to be on this historical demarcation line. And, being so close to the official half-way point ! So many feelings at once.

Did I mention it was close to sunset once I got there ! I also got to see a nice deer. Called it a day at the Falls Creek campsite.
