Day 45: 0 miles – zero day in Damascus

Mile marker: 472 Miles today: 0

Rest from my first 20+ mile days

The last two days, I increased the miles and my pace.

Therefore, I decided to give my body some rest, especially my shin splits. I do not want them to come back. Also, I did felt tired & wanted some rest.

I got some new shoes, since I had some holes in the back of mine(where the heels are). The hole on right shoe started to hurt me yesterday. The outfitter advise to go with a mid shoe, since even my hoka’s were doing holes in the heel part.

I picked up my second resupply box.

I also used the opportunity to be in town to get some “town food” in.

As I was walking back from the dinner, I saw Tennessee Switch with some friend of her friends that came to visit her on trail.

We went to the local brewery. We had some nice conversations. Her friends asked me what has been the best part of trail so far.

My answer was along the lines: As much as the trail is beautiful & being in nature is great, it really is the people. The people I met, in general, have really touched me: fellow hikers but also people around it. Their authencity & generosity can be felt. The sense of community is strong. I also had some heart felt conversations with stangers about things in went trought in my life. It did & does help me process things & I am grateful for it. Everyone I meet so far around the AT, wants to be there, and that can be felt & makes all the difference.
